Manhattan College Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2022 Announced

Eight individuals will be elected to the Manhattan College Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2022, and two outstanding teams have been selected for special recognition. The 43rd annual induction ceremony and dinner will take place on Saturday, November 12.

This year’s honorees are: 

• Jeanine Hanratty ’95 (volleyball) 
• John Kennelly ’78 (tennis) 
• Malin Marmbrandt (Otterling) ’10 (women’s track and field) 
• Dan Mecca, (head coach, men’s and women’s track and field and men’s and women’s cross country track and field) 
• Jaci Rahey ’11, (softball and volleyball) 
• Tiffany Schettig ’03, (women’s basketball) 
• Steve Trimper (head coach, baseball)
• Conrad Weiden '80 (men’s swimming) 

Additionally, the 1973 NCAA indoor track and field national championship team and the 1991-92 men’s basketball team will be honored for their contributions. The class of 2022 features athletes and coaches in eight sports whose contributions to the College span nearly 40 years. 

“The administration, and the hall of fame committee are excited to welcome the class of 2022 into the Manhattan College Athletic Hall of Fame,” said Marianne Reilly, ‘82,  director of intercollegiate athletics. “A diverse class across sports and eras of Jasper athletics, these former Jaspers have represented Manhattan with distinction. As student-athletes, coaches and alumni, they are deserving additions to our hall of fame. We look forward to honoring this class and celebrating all individual and team accomplishments.”

Jeanine Hanratty '95 was an All-MAAC volleyball honoree as a senior, and was named to the MAAC All-Tournament Team in 1994. During her time on the team, Hanratty helped lead the Jaspers to the semifinals. Individually, Hanratty holds the Manhattan record for assists in a single season with 1,302 and sets played at 142. Both records were set in 1994 when she was a senior. Hanratty is among the Jaspers all-time top ten in assists, hitting percentage, and solo blocks. Academically, Hanratty was a three-time MAAC All-Academic Team member and earned the Jasper Award in 1994-95. She was also a two-time Outstanding Performer Award winner for volleyball. 

John Kennelly '78 helped Manhattan go 8-0 in league play to win the title as a freshman. He was a three-time tennis team captain during his sophomore through senior seasons. He recorded a ten-match winning streak as a junior while playing first singles and first doubles and helped the Jaspers post a winning record in three of his four seasons. Kennelly was also named team MVP as a junior in 1976-77 and was a two-time most outstanding performer for the Jaspers. 

Malin Marmbrandt (Otterling) '10 left her mark in the long and triple jump for the Jaspers. In 2010, Marmbrandt became the lone female student-athlete to win the long jump and triple jump at the ECAC Championships. The former Jasper still holds both the indoors and outdoors school record in the long jump and placed second in the triple jump to Hall of Famer Tina Magi. During her career in Riverdale, Marmbrandt was a 10-time MAAC Champion, a  four-time ECAC long jump champion, and a two-time ECAC triple jump champion. At the Metropolitan Championships, Mambrandt won the long and triple jumps eight times and also qualified for NCAA Preliminary Rounds as a sophomore, junior, and senior. 

Dan Mecca, head coach, men’s and women’s track and field, was promoted to men’s and women’s cross country and track and field coach in 1993 after coaching the Jaspers’ men’s field events since 1986. During his 36 years, Manhattan won 17 MAAC Men’s Indoor Team Titles, 14 Men’s Outdoor Titles, 13 Women’s Indoor Titles, 11 Women’s Outdoor Titles, five MAAC women’s cross country titles, and one IC4A men’s indoor title. 

As part of those title counts, Manhattan won the MAAC indoor men’s team title every year from 1997 to 2013 and the women’s indoor title every year from 1999 to 2006. Outdoors, Mecca led the Manhattan men to MAAC Titles from 1998 to 2010 and the women from 1998 to 2003. He coached a total of 40 All-Americans, and five NCAA Champions, and won 33 MAAC Coach of the Year Awards. During his tenure, Mecca student-athletes also won the long jump, triple jump, high jump, hammer, shot put, and the decathlon at the Penn Relays. 

Jaci Rahey '11 was a two-sport athlete for the Jaspers, playing softball and volleyball for the green and white. On the diamond, Rahey was a two-time first team All-MAAC selection and a first-team all-region selection in 2010. She finished her career second all-time in MAAC history in both home runs and RBIs, and helped the Jaspers make the MAAC Tournament all four years she was in Riverdale. On the volleyball court, she finished her career with 865 kills (2.28 per set), 118 blocks (0.31 per set), and 962 points (2.53 per set). Rahey and the Jaspers qualified for the 2010 MAAC Tournament, and as a junior and senior, she tallied over 300 kills per season. 

Tiffany Schettig '03 donned the green and white from 1999-2003 and is considered one of the best three-point shooters in program history. Her 246 three-pointers rank second all-time, and she is also the all-time leader in three-point attempts with 786.  Schettig was named MAAC co-rookie of the year and a member of the all-rookie team in 2000. As a freshman, she averaged 10.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.2 steals, and 2.0 3-pointers per game. As a senior, Schettig picked up Third Team All-MAAC honors and concluded her career with 1,176 points (13th all-time) and 282 assists (14th) over 116 games played with 112 starts. The games played and started rank among the top ten in program history. 

Steve Trimper was the head coach of the Manhattan baseball team for seven seasons from 1999 to 2005. During his time in Riverdale, Trimper compiled a 172-174-2 record, with three seasons at .500 or better. Before Trimper’s arrival, the Jaspers had never qualified for the MAAC Tournament, but under his leadership, the Jaspers made the MAAC Tournament in 2003, 2004, and 2005. It was  the start of a ten -year run of making the conference tournament. In 2002, Trimper guided the Jaspers to a 32-19 record which qualified as the school’s first 30-win season. Chris Gaskin (2002) and Matt Rizzotti (2005) earned MAAC Rookie of the Year honors under Trimper’s guidance, with Rizzotti earning  MAAC Player of the Year in 2005. Trimper coached three major award winners and earned MAAC Coach of the Year honors in 2002 and 20 All-MAAC honorees. 

Conrad Weiden '80, carved his name in the Manhattan record books during his time as a Jasper. Weiden set three school records as a freshman, six as a sophomore, five as a  junior,  and five during his senior campaign. At the Metropolitan Championships, Weiden won six medals at the Division II meet and competed at the Division I meet as a junior in 1979. 

The 1973 NCAA National Championship Men’s Indoor Track & Field Team is the lone Division I Team National Championship in Manhattan history. That year, Mike Keogh won the two-mile run in 8:38, beating David Wottle of Bowling Green. Wottle was the Olympic champion in the two-mile run at the 1972 Munich Olympics. That season,  Clifford Bruce and Ken McBryde finished third in the 1000m and triple jump, respectively. In 1973, the Jaspers also won the IC4A championship and the metropolitan championships for the third straight season. 

The 1991-92 men's Basketball Team was the first regular-season MAAC Championship and top seed in the MAAC Tournament, and they won 25 games, which at the time, was the most in school history. Manhattan featured five future Manhattan hall of farmers and won two postseason games, the most in a single postseason in program history. In the middle of the season, the Jaspers reeled off nine straight victories to help them secure the MAAC regular season title. Head Coach Steve Lappas was named MAAC Coach of the Year, and Keith Bullock earned First Team All-MAAC honors. 

With this election class, the 10 inductees bring the hall of fame to 293 members. The enshrinement ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m in the Great Room of the Raymond W.
